It’s time to move beyond BMI and DXA. Provide your patient’s body composition insights powered by superior tech.

MRI-based AMRA® BCP Scan: A cutting-edge upgrade for health assessment

To live healthier and longer, we need to shift the way we measure body composition

If you are aiming to help individuals stay fit lifelong, help patients avoid disease onset, and extend your patient’s lifespan, the tools and services you use need to help you gain an in-depth, individualized and trackable view of a person’s health and fitness.

Several methods for assessing body composition, such as BMI (Body Mass Index) and DXA, are commonly used in preventative health. However, they fail to deliver personalized insights, only offer a snapshot of your patient’s health, or are limited in accuracy, precision, and disease association.

These gaps are filled by our MRI-based AMRA® BCP Scan. It provides more precise and actionable insights personalized to the patient.

The AMRA® BCP Scan is a new approach to body composition

The BCP Scan is a service that couples MRI with advanced analytics to measure muscle and fat for body composition — helping your practice move beyond BMI and outdated technologies to newer global standards of assessing body composition. The output is an easy-to-use report that delivers results helping you gain precise, actionable insights into your patient’s health and wellness.

With AMRA® BCP Scan you can

  • Get actionable data on fat and muscle distribution throughout the body via high-precision volumetric measurements delivered with individualized results
  • Track health status with body composition measurements that may help predict disease or help clinicians categorize patient risk
  • Monitor your patient’s health status over time

Why measure muscle and fat with MRI?

Excessive muscle fat and reduced muscle volume have been associated with reduced physical function, disability, frailty, increased fracture risk, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, increased risk of hospitalization, severe illness outcome, poor overall survival, among others and is a problem not measured as completely or individually by any of the older body composition modality.

With the MRI-based BCP Scan, you can assess several fat and muscle measurements with precision and accuracy.

How it works — It’s a rapid and easy MRI-based service

The AMRA® BCP Scan is a neck-to-knee MRI-based service that takes less than 10 minutes to perform. It works by integrating our validated BCP protocol into your 1.5 T or 3 T MRI scanners (GE, Siemens, Phillips). The BCP protocol is quick and easy to use without any special hardware or software.

Once a patient is scanned, images are sent via a secure transfer to AMRA for analysis using our health informatics platform. Following the MR image analysis, you receive an easy-to-interpret report containing precise body composition measurements. To add context and personalization for your patient, each individual is compared to virtual control groups with similar characteristics such as sex and BMI.

Built on MRI — outperforming other imaging technologies

For us at AMRA, our goal is to deliver meaningful, and actionable data. This means our technology needs to be built on MRI: the superior technology platform.

MRI with BCP is more accurate and delivers more precise insights compared with BIA, DXA, and CT. What’s more, MRI is radiation-free unlike CT.

Potential clinical utility of MRI with BCP

Preventative Health and Wellness
Incorporate the BCP scan into a longevity or fitness plan to help individuals assess their health and wellness over time. Periodically measure fat and muscle volume to support an active lifestyle well into their senior years.
Heart Disease
BCP Scan can identify individuals with high visceral fat and low liver fat—a phenotype associated with a high risk of heart disease. This information helps to promote healthy exercise and diet choices.
Type 2 diabetes
BCP Scan measures visceral fat and liver fat, which can help physicians promote healthy lifestyle choices or monitor medication response.
Fitness
Monitor the impact of your training guidance on muscle volume (quantity) and muscle fat (quality). This may help your patients understand if their exercise program is working or may need adjustments.
Obesity
Monitor healthy weight loss—are your patients actually losing visceral fat, or only losing subcutaneous fat? Knowing this may motivate healthy lifestyles and encourage individuals to decide when they may need to course-correct.

Regulatory Clearance and Availability

The AMRA® BCP Scan Report is generated by AMRA® Profiler. AMRA® Profiler 4 has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA in Q4 2021, and is permitted for distribution of the AMRA® BCP Scan in the US.
